Luke was born and raised in the great city of Dunedin and lived near the beach
in a small place called Brighton, before moving into town and settling in Maori
Hill. His family always had faith but it wasn’t until he encountered Jesus in a
life altering way at a youth camp in 1997 that his own personal faith was
sparked into action. He's been a disciple in the making ever since..

End of 1998 the family decided to migrate to Nelson to escape the Dunedin winter
and after futile attempts to stay he ended up moving as well and made the top of
the south home. Luke eventually fell into youth leading at an Anglican church in
Bishopdale mid 1999 and the following year, answered God’s call to take on youth
ministry, becoming an intern at BCNZ and pretty soon after, full time youth
pastor for Bishopdale 2001. It was during this time that he met and married
Demelza, all within the space of a year and not long after, their daughter Kloey
was born 2004.
After many great years at Bishopdale they decided it was time for a fresh
challenge and followed God’s leading to Auckland where Luke began as full time
youth pastor at St George's Anglican Church Epsom in 2005. Their son Zavier
was born in 2006 while they were up north, and although Auckland often gets bad
reviews from south islanders, they really enjoyed their ministry time there and
loved being in the big city for a season. They made a lot of friends and learnt a
lot about church.
It wasn’t until this year that Luke and Demelza felt God was leading them back to Nelson,
so Luke was signed up as the Diocese youth coordinator and they are now back home
in the south, passionate about having the opportunity to minister once again
into this great place and to be a part of what God is doing among our young
people.
Things you may or may not want to know about Luke:
- 6 foot 3, curly hair when not shaved or steadily receding
- Passionate muso, guitarist, singer / songwriter and rock band member
- Basketball addict and Larry Bird fan
- Always has a pair of Chuck Taylor shoes in the wardrobe
- Eats chocolate for breakfast when the wife isn’t looking
- Owns a onesy and isn’t ashamed to wear it in public
- Loves the south island but loves the north island a little bit as well
